State Route 330 Emergency Project near Running Springs
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) continues the $9.8 million emergency project on State Route 330 (SR-330) to repairs asphalt, slopes, drainage, guardrails, remove damaged trees, and significant structural damage caused by the Line Fire.
Contractor and Caltrans crews are in the area actively removing damaged trees, installing new signage, rock scaling, installing new guardrail, and installing fiber roll for erosion control. Crews have completed their grinding operation to remove damaged asphalt and are preparing to repave the six mile section next week.
At this time, the roadway will remain fully closed from Highland Ave. to Live Oak Drive for the safety of both the public and crews on site. If traveling during closure hours, please plan to use State Route 18 (SR-18) from San Bernardino or State Route 38 (SR-38) from Mentone. Please adhere to all road closure signage to ensure the safe transport of equipment and crews. Shortest Distance
The shortest and quickest way for visitors coming from Los Angeles, Orange County, and other points west is Hwy 330 / Hwy 18 through Running Springs. Please note that this route can become very congested on the weekends during peak season.
SR-330 remains closed until further notice due to the Line Fire, which has caused significant damage requiring extensive repairs. The impact on road conditions for the start of winter in Nov/Dec is currently uncertain.Hwy 18 RS
Alternative Route Avoiding Hwy 330
This is a great alternative route for visitors coming from the West. Hwy 18 through Running Springs bypasses Hwy 330 and connects straight through to Big Bear Lake and vice versa.Hwy 38
Scenic Route, Less Switchbacks
Though the drive on this route takes a bit longer (approx 20 minutes), it is typically less congested than Hwy 330 / Hwy 18. This route will take you the back way through Redlands.Hwy 18 LV
Travel Through Lucerne Valley
Hwy 18 is the quickest way to/from Barstow, Las Vegas, and other high desert locations. This route has the least amount of mountain driving.
